Ted Liao

Dr. Ted Liao took a less traditional path to veterinary medicine. Before becoming a veterinarian, he worked for many years in veterinary and biomedical research settings, including as a veterinary assistant and registered veterinary technician in emergency, ICU, anesthesia, surgery, and shelter medicine. He also worked in laboratory animal medicine and research support before returning to school to pursue his DVM. 

He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and went on to complete a small animal rotating internship at Veterinary Specialty Center in Bannockburn, Illinois. After years of working in emergency and critical care as a veterinary technician, he returned to that area as a veterinarian and continues to focus his practice on emergency medicine. He enjoys the problem-solving aspect of emergency practice, where each case presents a different clinical puzzle and requires thoughtful decision-making, adaptability, and teamwork. 

Outside of work, Dr. Liao enjoys playing ping-pong, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with his cats, Lilian and Mika.
